Today’s official mode of communication is through text messaging. There are infinite new text message abbreviations coming up everyday. In this Techspirited post, we will go over some of the most commonly used abbreviations out there.
The other day when I was in class, jotting down some notes, I realized that I automatically started writing in “SMS language”. This got me thinking as to how we started using these text message abbreviations. Perhaps, the abbreviations for messages came into play because in older phones, the limit of one SMS was 160 characters. So, people started using their own abbreviations to complete the entire message within 160 characters.
Now, of course, with the advance in technology, cell phones have increased the limit for characters in one message. However, today using abbreviations for texting has become more of a fashion trend to save time. Perhaps that is because today’s world is all about using shortcuts and finding fast ways of doing something!
Coming back to the point, there are infinite common abbreviations used today. Sometimes it can be hard to keep up with the new abbreviations and text symbols that keep popping up everyday, even if you are very “tech savvy”. With more than 82 million people texting regularly, it’s no wonder that there are so many abbreviations. They are not only used in texts but also IM, email, chat rooms etc. So, just for fun, why not make a list of abbreviations that might help everyone keep up with the new ones.
