By learning how to hard reset a Droid phone, you can get rid of many software glitches that you may be facing on it. The term Droid has led to a lot a confusion amongst many people over the last year or so, and this is because so many manufacturers have used this name to describe a specific model or product that they offer. Mainly, HTC and Motorola are two manufacturers who have used this term extensively. We will focus on smartphones from these manufacturers, which are termed as Droid.
What is Hard Reset?
Let us first see what exactly hard reset means. Simply put, it is a method of pressing a combination of hardware buttons on your device, that will cause the device to go back to its factory settings. All the changes to profile and other aspects that you have made before this, will be lost, and the phone will revert to the settings with which it came, when you first bought it.
The purpose of this process is to get rid of any problems or glitches that the mobile phone is experiencing. There are many times when an electronic device malfunctions, and if it seems like permanent damage, one possible remedy is to carry out this process. Please note that you will lose all saved data and files after this, so it is advisable to create a backup of all the data on the phone. This can be done either on a microSD card, or on your computer, by connecting the phone to the computer with a microUSB cable.
Droid X
With that in mind, let’s now see how one can carry out this process on the various models of cell phones mentioned above.
- Turn off the phone before you begin, and disconnect it from all power sources.
- Now hold down the Home button and the Power button simultaneously for around 8 seconds.
- Once a screen with an exclamation appears, touch the Search button on the phone.
- Now use the volume rocker for scrolling down, and select Factory Reset. Confirm the selection when the prompt appears.
- Now select ‘Yes – Delete All User Data’, and then select ‘OK’ to complete the process.
Droid 2
This is a pretty good phone running the newer version of Android, and it is the true successor of the original Motorola device.
- Turn off the phone and disconnect all power sources.
- Open the sliding QWERTY keyboard and press the X button. Simultaneously press and hold the Power button as well.
- Soon a yellow triangle will appear on the screen. Now press the Search key on the keyboard.
- Now use the volume rocker to find and highlight the ‘Wipe Data/ Factory Reset’ option. Confirm the selection by pressing the Camera key.
- Now touch the ‘Wipe Data/ Factory Reset’ option and then touch OK.
- Highlight ‘Reboot System Now’ and then touch OK. This will complete the process.
Droid Incredible
This is one of the well-known and best selling HTC phones.
- Turn off the phone and disconnect it from all power sources.
- Keep the Volume Down button pressed, and then press and release the Power button. Do not release the Volume Down button just yet.
- Soon 3 Android images will appear on the screen. Now release the Volume Down button.
- Now use the Volume Down button again to select the ‘Clear Storage’ option.
- Once that option is highlighted, press the Power button. Confirm selection by pressing the Volume Up button. This will complete the whole process.
Droid Eris
This is a relatively old smartphone, but one that is still quite popular nonetheless.
- Turn off the phone and disconnect all power sources.
- Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Send button simultaneously.
- Press the Power button and simply follow the prompts that appear on the screen to complete the process.
Many people wish to hard reset their Droid because they want to sell the phone. Wiping the phone clear of all files and contacts is advisable before selling it. Please note the difference between hard and soft reset as well. Hard reset is carried out by pressing a combination of buttons when the phone is switched off, whereas, soft reset is carried out by going to the Settings menu and restoring factory settings when the phone is switched on.
