Would you like to write for us? Well, we're looking for good writers who want to spread the word. Get in touch with us and we'll talk...

Let's Work Together!

There are several types of web developers and it’s significant to know the difference. Front-end developers build a site’s working features that visitors use and interact with. Back-end developers maintain a website’s inner functions, including how it loads and runs.

The two types of developers share in common the ability to take a design team’s blueprint and code the site that the company wants. Whether they build the outer or inner functions, these developers remain desirable workers. No matter the industry, they are therefore some of the most well-paid professionals in any industry.

The reason is simple. With the explosion not only of site content but mobile development across all industries, web developers are now the bread and butter of companies working to expand their assets to the online marketplace. With the right skills and experience, a new web developer can take advantage of the incredible job outlook in their chosen field.

Web Developer Job Outlook: Education and Skills

Coders need to be able to diversify their skills to build proper websites. The coding language for creating functioning buttons, menus, and links differs from the language used to build the site itself, which also differs from the look of the site, including the size and color of its features. A competitive web developer needs certification and experience in three different programming languages, at the very least. HTML, JavaScript, and CSS represent the coder’s bible in terms of coding languages that all prospective developers should know.

In order to become a web developer, you need more than experience in coding. First, you need to decide between the two development types we mentioned, front or back. It will heavily influence the skills you need to plan for.

Next, you need some kind of education. This could be a bachelor’s in programming or development but it doesn’t have to be! Online courses like edX can give you a high-quality tour of the basics of web development. Thus, courses like this can get you started towards your goals.

Finally, schedule the skills and experience you need to get the job you want. Project yourself a few years forward and use the online courses at your disposal to get that experience. Consider freelance jobs as a gold mine to get relevant skills on your resume.

What to Do Next

Web developer job outlook continues to improve. So long as you plan the skills and experience you need to acquire for your chosen type of development, you can enter this lucrative field confidently (and competitively).
