iPod Not Responding
If your device does not respond, or does not turn on, or you find your display remains blank, you need to check for the following problems.
- The ‘Hold’ switch maybe in the locked position and you may need to unlock it. Try switching on your iPod again. If your Hold switch is unlocked, try locking and unlocking the toggle again.
- You may require resetting your iPod. Your music files and other data will not get affected due to resetting. You need to slide the toggle to ‘Hold’ and then turn it off again. Now, press and hold the ‘Menu’ and center ‘Select’ button simultaneously. Continue pressing for 6 to 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears.
- Check if your battery is charged. You may need to plug-in your device for charging and then after a few moments turn it on.
Trouble Transferring Songs
If you cannot transfer songs to your iPod, then you may need to check the iTunes version. If your iTunes is updated to the latest version, you may have to check if your iPod needs a later version or a specific version of iTunes. You may have to update your iPod software to be compatible with your Apple iTunes version.
iPod Not Seen in iTunes, Desktop, or Windows Explorer
If your iPod does not appear in the iTunes or your desktop after connecting it to the computer, there may be a number of problems. If you are a Mac user, you may have to first reset your iPod, then retry using a different USB or FireWire port. Then restart your computer and check if the latest software updates are installed. Then uninstall your iTunes software and then reinstall the latest version of iTunes from the Internet. Now, restore your iPod and check if it appears in iTunes and your desktop.
In case of Windows OS users, you need to reset, retry, restart, reinstall, and restore your iPod. Windows XP users need to check the ‘Device Manager’ and click the start menu and click ‘Run’. Then you need to type ‘devmgmt.msc’ and click OK.
Headphones Giving Problems
If you find that your headphones are not working, or have a garbled audio, or you hear static, you need to check them in a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack. If you find that the problem persists, you may have to replace them. If there is no problem with your headphones, you may need to reset your iPod, or else restore the latest software using iTunes.
Frozen iPod Touch
If your iPod touch seems frozen, you need to check if the battery power is low. If not, you may have to restart it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button till you see a red slider appear. Then slide your finger across it. After a few moments your device will turn off. Then, again press the Sleep/Wake button till the Apple logo appears. If this also does not seem to help, you may have to update your iPod touch and iTunes software. Restore your device with the latest software to get it working back to normal.
Issues With Email
If you are having trouble sending and receiving mails on your iPod touch, you may have to check your settings. Go to Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Here you need to go to Accounts and tap the accounts you are sending mails from. Tap SMTP in Outgoing Mail Server. In case of multiple accounts, try using SMTP server from another account. You need to select ‘On’ on the On/Off slider. You can get settings for your mail from your service provider.
