Initially, engineers started cutting master discs to create vinyl records and devised signal processors like compressors, limiters and equalizers to avoid overloading the cutter head. Modifying the settings could produce useful effects on the music, particularly in Pop styles. Equipment and techniques were used to sweeten the sound.
Smoothness, clarity, impact, and punch were increased depending on the requirement of the music. The aim is to enhance the emotional intensity. In case the performance, recording quality and arrangement are beneficial to start with, the final master sounds are better with the mix tapes.

Output
The finished music tracks are converted to the media required for mass production, generally Recordable CDs. The master disc can be heard on any disc player. Further, the client can audition it and provide the final approval. At times, cassette replicators opt for 4mm DAT tapes.
For CD replicators, mastering involves creation of the glass master disc that can be used to make stampers. Each CD plant opts to prepare their own glass masters for quality control reasons. The glass master has to be a proper mirror image of the CDR master disc created by the music mastering facility.
