The ever-changing Facebook user interface can put you in a sort of dilemma at times, which is not quite surprising considering that the top social networking website has been trying everything possible to keep hackers and spammers at bay. Of the many restrictions that Facebook users face, one in particular that is difficult to decipher, is that of restricting the number of people you can message at a time.
Sending a Message to all Friends on Facebook
Whom Can You Send Messages on Facebook?
The advanced privacy settings of Facebook restrict the number of people you can message. The foremost thing you need to understand is that Facebook messaging and Facebook chat are two different concepts, with the former being more of an email client and the latter, more of a chat client. Basically, you can only chat with those people who are in your friends list. On the other hand, you can message everybody on Facebook―as long as their privacy settings don't restrict you from the same. If you can see the 'Send a Message' tab right below the persons profile picture (or alongside the person's picture in search results) you can message him by clicking on this tab.
Sending Message to Multiple Recipients
The user-friendly interface of Facebook makes messaging an easy task, but only when you know where the particular tabs are located. This, mind you, is not an easy task, as Facebook revamps its user interface every now and then. If you want to message a single person, you just have to go to the persons profile and click on the 'Send a Message' tab. This will redirect you to a new page wherein you can type the message in the composing box and simply click on the 'Send' tab below it. That's about sending message to single recipient, but what if you want to message all your friends on Facebook together?
In this case, you will have to go to your Facebook homepage, locate the 'Messages' tab (located at the left hand side of the screen), and click on it. On doing this, you will be redirected to a new page, wherein you will be able to compose your message in the composing box. When you are done composing the message, you will have to click on the small box wherein you are supposed to feed the recipient's name. You can either feed the names of the recipients or their email addresses. Once you are done selecting all friends, you can simply go ahead and click on the 'Send' tab. Your message will be sent to all the recipients you had selected.
How Many Facebook Friends Can You Message at a Time?
You cannot send a message to all those 200 - 300 people in your friends list in one go. Like we said earlier, there is a limit to the number of people you can message at a time. As of today, the maximum number of people you get to message is 20. It's a precautionary measure to ensure that your message box is not flooded with spam, a problem quite common with most of the email clients in the cyberspace today. They may decide to increase it (or reduce it) in the future, but as of today, you will have to be content with 20.
If your friends list has more than 20 people, then you are left with two options. First, you can simply repeat the entire process of sending messages to 20 people again and again. Second, you can create a group of all those people whom you want to send the message and click on the 'Send Message to the Group' tab to send it to all of them. An easier way out is to use status update to send your message across to the people, but this should only be tried when the message you are sending is NOT confidential.
