Each computer that can use the Internet has a unique IP address. No two computers share the same IP address. The IP address comprises four numerals that are separated by full stops.
Human users have also been facilitated by the introduction of domain names. Domain names are the alphabetical manifestation of the numerical IP address by a DNS (Domain Name Server).
Transfer of Information
The information is transformed into minute packets and is transmitted from one computer to another. This function is performed by a machine called stack.

All these software use numerous methods to encode and decipher the information passed between computers.
Servers are machines that perform a specified role on the Internet and their presence is very essential for its successful operation. They provide access to the infinite files called websites available in the Internet. The servers send requests to the various webpages that make up a website.
The website to which the request is sent sends the concerned webpage from its numerous webpages. Mail servers are servers designed to decipher and modulate the packages utilized by the e-mail. It is the source from where a person's mail can be downloaded.
Downloading is the process by which information such as songs, games, wallpapers, screensavers, and different files are saved in a person's computer from a website. Uploading is just the opposite of downloading as the name suggests. It is the process of sending information from a distant computer to any website.
Modem is simply the acronym for modulator-demodulator. It is one of the most important components required by a person to access the Internet. It is a simple device that is connected to a telephone for its functioning. The modem converts the electrical signals to analog signals (modulation) and vice-versa (demodulation).
It is a wide network of computers which offers information from remote computers and also helps us to connect with people all over the world. Recently, websites even for matrimonial purposes have been launched.
There are also social networking websites such as Facebook so that people can meet more people online. The Internet is a single medium through which the world can communicate and voice their opinions.
